Whats a SOCIAL ENTERPRISE?!
Social enterprises are defined in many ways, but typically are nonprofit organizations that operate businesses in order to generate revenues and fulfill their missions.
A social enterprise is an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in financial, social and environmental well-being—this may include maximizing social impact alongside profits for the business.
ButterPear as an example is a non profit thats goal oriented to produce revenue to not only donate back into the community that it supports but to sustain itself in the sense of providing jobs and opportunities for the makers.
Because we know at ButterPear, for a movement to really make an impact- it must belong to those who join it, not just those who lead it .
Through ButterPear our most important goal is to not be a charity but a community. We work with small business owners in various African countries. And instead of buying these products at Anthropologie or Home Goods- you can support the culture and artist that makes these beautiful items, without worrying about ethics because the profit pot ALL goes back to them.
By using this format to fundraise, we are able to build sustainable communities. And if YOU have ever purchased an item from us, shared on social media, or told someone by word of mouth YOU are a part of our social enterprise!
